Modern art is full of cynicism and critics of the way society works. Usually those critics are towards today’s human materialism, and self-interested actions. One of the greatest modern artist, Eduardo Salles is the standard bearer of the spirit of the cynics. He is advertiser, designer, illustrator, writer and professor at the Miami Ad School. And a professional procrastinator! Through beautiful minimalist posters which refers to the society today he offers us a chance to ask ourselves: Are we seeing that life is what happens to us while we are looking at our smartphones?
These amazing illustrations shows homeless person who is asking for a like instead for money, the problems in countries with manipulated freedom of speech or no freedom at all, also they show the prejudices of human kind. This sarcastic way of saying that something is terribly wrong with us through his art made him the winner of prizes for journalism (Walter Reuters prize), for advertising (Cannes Lions) and literature (Juan Rulfo Short Story Award). Maybe this young Mexican artist isn’t trying to change the world, maybe he is just trying to add a realistic perspective to our inner child or to Disney characters. Whatever he is doing, he is doing it in a perfectly disturbing, sarcastic and funny way. So take a second to reach out in his mind through these illustrations.
